September 15, 2001 kicked off the SSHBEA Sport Horse World Championship with the first of the two Championship Competitive Trail Ride's. The weather turned out beautiful as 36 entries competed and many others enjoyed watching the competition. The layout of Mike Wilson's farm gave ample room and natural obstacles for the days events. The competitive trail ride included many obstacles including a backing exercise, jumps, a water crossing, and hills just to name a few. The backing exercise, which required the rider to back out of a U shaped area caught the attention of several horse and rider teams, but many backed their way to success on this obstacle, including many of the youth.
The Hunting Horse classes included several obstacles such as a send over jump, hills, a gun being shot, and many others.
Many good horses were brought out for this competition and many took home ribbons after the long day of competition, fun, and fellowship. Of course we cannot forget the food as George Scott served some of the best Bar-B-Que. around to all the hungry participants.
SSHBEA Sport Horse would like to thank all the sponsors, and a special thanks to Mike Wilson for the use of his beautiful farm, and to all the judges and timekeepers who put in a long day. For more information on SSHBEA Sport Horse please contact the SSHBEA office or any Sport Horse committee member.
