Minutes of 2-15-05 SSHBEA Board of Directors Meeting

 

            On February 15, 2005 , at 7:05PM , Travis Kelley called the SSHBEA Board of Directors meeting to order and asked Janice Higgins to call the roll.  All members were present.  She then read the minutes of the last meeting and Brenda Wright corrected Kim Thompson to Niki Thompson on the Trail Pleasure Committee and Travis asked for all in approval of the minutes say yes and all opposed say no.  Minutes were approved.  Sis Osborne made the motion to add and approve Sharon McGee to the Hearing Committee, Brenda Wright seconded, motion passed.  Sis Osborne made the motion to approve and add Ronnie Harwell and Barney Davis to the Fund Raising Committee, Freda Bullard seconded, motion passed.  Brenda Wright made the motion to add and approve Howard Holcomb, Fay Carver and Diane Allen to the Trail Pleasure Committee, Kathy Baker seconded, motion passed.  Mark Cutlip made the motion to add and approve Krista Smith to the Corporate Sponsor Committee, Brenda Wright seconded, motion passed.  Sharon McGee-Chairperson-asked for her Halter Committee to be approved.  Suzanne Jernigan, Amanda Jernigan, Chantel Winnett, Roy Franklin, Kevin Gillam, Kasey Kesselring, Janice Higgins & Mark Cutlip.  Mark Cutlip made the motion to approve, Sis Osborne seconded, motion passed. 

 

            Travis then called the meeting into executive session and asked all guests to be excused.  There was discussion about what questions would be asked of the ’04 Fall Show judges.  The main question would be “why did you tie the class as you did?”  The judges were called in one at time and their answers were:  David Clark said the best he remembered the Billy White horse did not canter in front of him.(tied Billy White horse 3rd)  Roy Franklin said the Quarles horse had the best show walk and show gait and a flawless canter.(tied Billy White horse 2nd)  Robert Dalton said he tied the class the way he saw it.(tied Billy White horse 1st)  At this time someone asked to see the video of the class and it was shown.  Bill Murray said he tied the Billy White horse because that horse was doing what he had tied all week.  He was paid for his opinion that night and that is what he gave.(tied Billy White horse 1st)  Curt Denton was not present-but had tied the Billy White horse 1st also.  Audrey Quarles and Barney Davis were called back in and Travis reported what the judges had told us. 

 

            Judy Hooker had resigned at the last board meeting, but a couple of days later she contacted Travis and asked to withdraw her resignation.   After discussion Sis Osborne made the motion to reinstate Judy as a board member.  Brenda Wright seconded, motion passed. 

 

            Johnny Smith made a motion to rescind the motion concerning the 75% vote needed to approve judges, made at the earlier meeting and use rule #22.8 as it is written “the approval or denial of application shall by majority vote of the Board of Directors, after reviewing the recommendation of the Judges Committee”.  Judy Hooker seconded, motion failed with 9 yes votes and 10 no votes.  Dan Meyer made the motion to accept the 84 questions presented for the judge’s test and use a minimum of 80 on each test sent out to the judges.  John Mohon seconded, motion passed. 

 

            Aaron Crafton presented the Financial Report.  He recommended using the same budget as 2004 and will have this ready for approval at the next meeting.  In the general checking account there is $52,000 with $3300 in accounts payable.  The operating fund had $49,000 and the magazine account has $29,000.

 

            Harry Dean Hobbs was present to represent the 1 Night Show Committee.  Halls Mill wants to have their show again, but they need help from another group or SSHBEA committee.  He suggested that SSHBEA give every 1 night show $200 as a booster, and pay the DQP and the show pay us the $50 plus the $6 per entry. The show will receive the $200 when they return their paperwork to the office from their show.  Johnny Smith made the above into a motion, Brenda Wright seconded, motion passed.  The Committee is planning a dinner/meeting with the 1 night show chairpersons from last year if approved.  Johnny Smith made the motion to approve up to $800 for a dinner for a chair and 1 guest on March 7th, 6:30PM .  Janie Rowland seconded, motion passed. 

 

            Discussion went to the Spring Show class sheet next.  Using last years sheet, we would take out the driving classes, and add the LS & TP 14.2 & under and the 2 Country Trail Pleasure classes.  Freda made this a motion, John Mohon seconded, motion passed. 

 

            Krista Smith asked if the Sport Horse could have an event on Saturday morning of the Spring Show-May 1.  This was approved without a vote.

 

            Dan Meyer had a letter of appeal to register a stallion in Ohio that will sire 30 colts this year that could possibly be registered.  This stallion does not have a registered parent and the owner of the sire of this stallion absolutely refuses to register his horse.  Travis will contact the sire owner and see if he can work out something.

 

            Travis reminded everyone about the Sport Horse Potluck and Auction at the office on March 5. 

 

            Bob Wright made the motion to approve a guest judge license for Don Woodson for a show in April.  Freda Bullard seconded, motion passed. 

 

            Sis Osborne made the motion to adjourn, Freda Bullard seconded, motion passed.
