Minutes of June 21, 2005 SSHBEA Board of Directors Meeting

Travis Kelley called the meeting to order and asked Janice Prince to call the roll, in the absence of Janice Higgins. All were present except Janice Higgins, John Mohon, Linda Bedwell and Tammy Coffman who had all notified the office. The minutes had been mailed to members from the last meeting and Sis Osborne made the motion to approve them, Janie Rowland seconded, motion passed.

Discussion then went to out of state sanction fees-KY had paid $1900 just last year. After discussion Sis Osborne made the motion that all Out of State sanction fee not exceed $500 for the year. This will apply to multi breed shows only with only a few spotted classes and does not apply to affiliated (all spotted) shows. Freda Bullard seconded, motion passed.

Janice Prince is to send Hugh Wassom a fruit basket.

Horse Illustrated emailed SSHBEA about having someone work with them on writing an article on the Spotted Saddle Horse. Janie Rowland made the motion for Freda Bullard and the promotional committee to take care of this, Maude Hopkins seconded, motion passed.

Travis passed out a letter that Tony Edwards had given him, complaining about the board approving the use of NHSC judges, the judge’s test, the board voting by secret ballot, etc. The letter had 38 signatures. Tony said "they" were collecting money and have purchased a SSHBEA mailing list to mail this letter to all the membership. Travis is to call Linda Hill tomorrow morning to discuss this letter and to see if we can take the office email address off the letter and how we should respond if the letter does go to the complete membership. Bob and Travis had come up with the idea of inviting all the trainers to a get together and ask them, what SSHBEA could do to get them to come back to our shows.

Next Travis asked Judy Hooker to form a committee to sell belt buckles for the fall championship and have her committee approved at the next board meeting and asked Krista Smith to put a committee together to sell ribbons for the fall show and have her committee also approved at the next meeting. Mark Cutlip asked if the Youth Council helped sell sponsors, could we give them $5 from each sale. All agreed we could and monies would be paid at the January meeting.

Aaron Crafton went over the financial report. We are still owed $7000+ from the 90 day outstanding list. The general account has $56,000+, magazine account $39,000+ and the Youth Council account has $6200. As of now the spring show lost $8577. No corporate sponsors have been transferred. The printing for the program was $3700 for 300 programs. We sold and gave away 150 of them. Janice is to pull the bills from this year and last year and Travis & Bob will look at them and compare on Friday. Sis is to contact some printing companies and get prices for printing the program. The magazine is in the red by about $6000+. Total revenue is $2300. . Aaron said the magazine committee needs to meet on this issue and he is willing to meet with them. Sis Osborne made the motion to approve the Financial Report, Johnny Smith seconded, motion passed.

Travis then turned the floor over to Bob Wright. He reported he had tried to have a meeting 3 times. Bill Murray was presented to the board for vote to renew his judges license with approval of the committee. The vote was 14 yes and 1 no. Bob presented a motion in writing stating: "Effective January 1, 2007 a horse must satisfy all existing qualifications for registration and must additionally be a product of either a SSHBEA registered tobiano sire or SSHBEA registration tobiano dam. Freda Bullard seconded, motion passed. The motion was made by Sis Osborne to amend Bob’s motion to include that this action be sent to all current SSHBEA members to vote on and to be returned within 30 days from the day it is mailed (i.e. mailed July 15, returned by August 15). Motion seconded and passed with 2 no votes, Freda Bullard and Maude Hopkins. The membership as of 6/21/05 is the only members that can vote on this issue. There was discussion about the definition of tobiano. Sis suggested checking other breeds as to their definition.

Freda Bullard had been asked to bring up the issue of adding the Model category back to the Horse of the Year. Freda is to go over the Horse of the Year categories with Leslie and report back at the next meeting.

Freda Bullard presented the fall show class sheet. Bob Wright suggested cutting it back to the original 5 nights. Janie Rowland made the motion to approve the fall show as presented. Sharon McGee requested to add an Amateur Handler Model Class. The Amateur Country Trail Pleasure and the Juvenile Country Trail Pleasure will be added. Brenda Wright reported she had the sponsor for an Amateur owned & trained Country Trail Pleasure class and requested this be added. This class will not be added and this sponsor will not be used anywhere else. Kathy Baker seconded Janie’s motion with the addition of the 3 classes mentioned above (model & 2 CTP’s). Motion passed.

Dan Meyer reported on the Illinois Horse Fair and the Mid West Horse Fair, both were very successful for SSHBEA. At the June IL show they had 235 entries.

Krista Smith asked if Arnold Warmels and Lisa Murray could borrow some tables and the PA system for their Grand Opening for their open house of Rainbow’s End Ranch on July 10. Tables were approved, run PA system by Ladies Auxiliary.

Travis asked for either the money or the tickets to be turned in tonight on the Kubota give-a-way.

Bob Wright reported we need to pay the $1650 deposit for the Equine Affair "2006". Bob made this motion, Sis seconded, motion passed.

Bob had been asked if a person/judge has a horse in training and is asked to judge a show, can the trainer where his horse is bring all the other horses in that barn and show in front of this judge. All agreed it is not ethical, but not against the rules.

Bob made the motion to adjourn, Sis Osborne seconded, motion passed.
