At 7:00PM, Travis Kelley called the May 15, 2006 SSHBEA Board of Directors meeting to order and asked Janice Higgins to call the roll. All were present except Dan Meyer and Tammy Coffman who had notified the office of their absence. The minutes had been mailed and Judy Hooker made the motion to approve the minutes as written, Freda Bullard seconded, motion passed.

Some board members were surprised, irritated and unable to explain to other people why the SSHBEA Fall show date has been changed when they heard it announced at the Spring Show. One reason the show date has been changed was because of the International walking horse show is the same date as our show.

Travis turned the meeting over to Aaron Crafton to present the Financial Report. He and Travis were to have the outstanding debt list ready for the web page, but due to illness this had not been accomplished. Aaron recommended continuing with the suggested plan of having the annual meeting here at the office and the banquet at the Blue Ribbon Circle here in Shelbyville. Freda Bullard reported she had received complaints on this idea – that people want to all be together and have everything at the same place, such as in a hotel and not have to run here and there.

Travis introduced Dr. Todd Behre of USDA to the board of directors. Travis asked him to touch on all the things that the USDA is doing and explain the program we are under. The program was designed to govern itself – to not need the USDA. He touched on the new swabbing technique of checking horses and the new algometer (sp?) machine among many other topics. All his information was greatly appreciated.

Discussion went back to the Financial Report. Bob Wright made the motion to approve the financial report, Kim McMahan seconded, motion passed.

Travis reported that SSHBEA has been presented a plaque and inducted into the Tennessee 4-H Foundation Hall of Fame.

The Trail Pleasure Committee had informed Travis that they could not hold the Summer Classic. Travis asked if the BOD wanted to do the Summer Classic. Janice Higgins is to compile the class sheet, Mark Cutlip is to contact the Youth Council about doing the concession stand. Class sponsors will be $100, ½ -$50, ¼-$30, awards-$25.

Kim McMahan asked for the boards support on the Fund Raiser committee. They are giving a Kubota away again this year in September.

Travis reported they are going to start coming to the office on Tuesday and Thursday nights and start calling for sponsors and would appreciate any help.

Ronnie Sapp made the motion to approve a guest judge license for Denny Smith for the Peoria Illinois show. Aaron Crafton seconded, motion passed.

Janice Higgins reminded the board that Dan Meyer had told us last month that they (the Illinois SSH group) would be spending around $2,200 at the Tri-State horse fair they are attending of their own free will. She suggested we should help with these expenses. More questions are to be asked before we give him any money as to whether it was strictly SSHBEA promotion.

Kim McMahan complained about the people that repeatedly miss board meeting. Why are we not upholding our bylaws?

We had 2 more NHSC judges to be approved. Laura Mooney and Brian Bingham – both were approved in a motion made by Aaron Crafton and seconded by Janie Rowland, motion passed.

Freda reported, Mitzi Gardner has agreed to chair the Lite Shod committee.

Mark Cutlip asked permission to use the logo on spare tire covers as a promotional item.

Janice Prince had a problem transfer, after discussion Roy Franklin made the motion to transfer the horse to the new owner, Kim McMahan seconded, motion passed.

Janice Higgins informed the board that the other SSH association shows are listed on the TWHBEA website. We had the same link at one time, Judy Hooker made the motion to spend the $125 to put SSHBEA back in the TWHBEA Horseman’s Directory and this will give us a link to the walking horse schedule. Mark Cutlip seconded, motion passed
