Minutes of the January 19, 2007 SSHBEA Board of Directors Meeting

 

       At 12:40P.M. , after the Board of Directors luncheon, Travis Kelley called the January, 2007 board of directors meeting to order.  The meeting had been postponed to this time since the regular meeting date would have fallen on January 16, Tuesday night before this annual meeting.  Travis asked Janice Higgins to read the minutes of the last meeting.  Sis Osborne made the motion to approve the minutes as read, Freda Bullard seconded, motion passed.   Not present for the meeting were:  Janie Rowland, Freda Wassom, Judy Hooker and Mark Burke. 

 

          Travis welcomed Ronnie Sapp back – he had met the requirements extended by the hearing committee. 

 

          Sis Osborne reported on her research on the Rocky Mountain associations.  She had contacted one of the associations but not the other two.  This would be continued at the next meeting. 

 

          Travis reported that it would be permissible for our judges and D.Q.P.’s to work with the Gaited Mule Shows. 

 

          Freda Bullard passed around a package of several horse related advertising cards that most of us receive in the mail from time to time.  SSHBEA was being offered a special price of $3,200 as opposed to the regular $6,000 regular advertising rate.  It is mailed to 250,000 people.  Someone is to check with TWH and see what kind of response they are getting from the same advertising technique and then we would make a decision at the next meeting. 

 

          There was discussion about a request from Mr. Gordon Hirschi from Utah , who is the treasurer of the 4-H Horse Council of his county, asking for a donation from SSHBEA.  That county chapter will be hosting the Utah State 4-H Horse Show in 2007 and in 2008.  We probably cannot make a monetary donation but could furnish trophies & ribbons for the Spotted Horse classes.  This is due to the fact that every county in every state would expect the same monetary donation. 

 

          This brought up the subject of the local 4-H rules which had been changed to allow SSHBEA I.D. registered horses to show in the same class with the Spotted Saddle Horses.  BobWright would address this with Doyle Meadows.

 

          Aaron Crafton gave the financial report, reporting we had cleared $4100 for the year in spite of having 2 break-ins at the office, new computer equipment and $15,000 in attorney’s fees and make-up IRA’s.  Sis Osborne made the motion to approve the Financial Report, Freda Bullard 2nd, motion passed.

 

          Tammy Coffman reported the Magazine committee and Employee Committee representative had met with the magazine employees on January 9 and went over a 2007 Magazine Guideline and Business Plan proposal (see attached).  Tammy presented this proposal and the board discussed and made a few changes to what was recommended.  Ronnie Sapp made the motion to hire Sarah Hickman as recommended by the committee as a 1099 employee for our graphic designer for the magazine.  Sis Osborne seconded, motion passed.  Price increases were included in the proposal, but were denied on the regular ad sales.  There were increases made in the special location rates.  Sis Osborne made the motion to approve these increases, Aaron Crafton seconded, motion passed.  Tammy will track several different avenues of the magazine for the next several issues. 

 

          Sport Horse needed to have Terry Givens approved as 2007 Coordinator so brochures can be passed out this weekend on February and March activities.  Freda Bullard made the motion to approve Terry, Ronnie Sapp seconded, motion passed. 

 

          Travis thanked everyone for the last 2 years and asked everyone to support Bob and make a good and successful 2007. 

 

          Sis Osborne made the motion to adjourn, Ronnie Sapp seconded, motion passed.
